Bamboo Value Chain Management

Jangu Tusome’s Bamboo Value Chain Management program harnesses bamboo’s potential as a sustainable resource to drive environmental conservation and economic growth in Mpigi District. Through this initiative, we train smallholder farmers in bamboo cultivation, management, and its wide-ranging uses, from construction and furniture to eco-friendly products. Bamboo’s rapid growth and resilience make it an ideal crop for diversifying income streams while contributing to reforestation and ecosystem restoration.

By adding value through processing and market linkages, the program empowers farmers to create sustainable livelihoods while promoting environmental stewardship. This initiative positions bamboo as a key catalyst for rural economic development and long-term sustainability.

Restoration of Indigenous Fruits/Trees

Jangu Tusome’s Restoration of Indigenous Fruits and Trees program is dedicated to preserving biodiversity, enhancing food security, and promoting environmental sustainability in Mpigi District. This initiative focuses on the reintroduction and cultivation of native fruit trees that are climate-resilient, rich in nutrients, and economically valuable for smallholder farmers.

We provide training in sustainable agroforestry, helping farmers integrate indigenous trees into their farming systems to improve soil fertility, water retention, and biodiversity. By restoring these vital species, the program supports the preservation of local ecosystems, safeguards cultural heritage, and creates new income opportunities through the sustainable use of native resources. This initiative not only fosters environmental conservation but also empowers rural communities with long-term economic and ecological benefits.
