Our Founding Story

A journey inspired by, passion, resilience, love and team work.

Founded in 2016, Jangu Tusome emerged from a profound commitment to uplift vulnerable communities in Uganda. It began with an educational sponsorship program that opened doors for over 740 children from families led by single mothers, providing them with access to secondary education. However, sustaining direct financial aid proved challenging and unsustainable. Recognizing the need for lasting solutions, we convened stakeholders, including former beneficiaries and rural communities, to chart a new course.

An innovative path forward emerged through collaborative brainstorming: leveraging agriculture to empower local communities. Overwhelmingly supported by 85% of our stakeholders, this strategy aimed to enhance agric-market intelligence, promote value addition, facilitate access to agricultural finance, and provide essential agri-based skills training. This approach was particularly apt as over 75% of rural households relied on smallholder farming, struggling to meet the basic income threshold of $1.25 per day.

Beginning with just 15 farmers who owned modest plots of land, we embarked on a journey of growth and transformation. We have expanded our impact by identifying market opportunities and facilitating access to land. As of May 2023, our initiatives have empowered 89 smallholder farmers, collectively generating over $12,000 in income. This success story underscores our commitment to sustainable development and reflects tangible outcomes: increased food security, enhanced household incomes, and strengthened community resilience.

At Jangu Tusome, we believe in nurturing potential, catalyzing change, and fostering sustainable futures. Join us as we continue to empower communities, break cycles of poverty, and build pathways to prosperity for all.
